Descripción de la bodega.
Fundada en 1987 por Gonzalo Antón, Izadi pertenece a la segunda hornada de bodegas que en la década de los noventa colocaron a Rioja en primera línea de la modernidad, con una receta que otorga un lugar prioritario a la viticultura, el terruño y el cuidado de la viña: la uva como base y protagonista. Situada en el corazón de Rioja Alavesa, en el triángulo que forman Villabuena, Lapuebla y Samaniego, Izadi elabora vinos ensalzados por la crítica internacional. Villabuena de Álava, donde parte de la familia ya estaba vinculada al mundo de la viticultura, fue el pueblo elegido donde se construyó una bodega innovadora y enfocada a la elaboración de vinos de calidad. El amplio conocimiento sobre la hostelería y la restauración lleva a Gonzalo Antón a concebir un vino, Izadi, que pronto se erige como uno de los más apreciados por el mundo de la gastronomía. A su vez, la incorporación de nuevas técnicas de elaboración y su gran afán de continua superación logran crear un estilo propio que se consolida a lo largo del tiempo. Dispone de 187 hectáreas de viñedo (70 de ellas, en propiedad), repartidas en pequeños pagos, cada uno con sus peculiaridades y sometidos a un seguimiento exhaustivo. Se trata de viñedos viejos que tienen una producción de calidad y bajos rendimientos. Y después, una enología basada en la selección de uvas y cuidadas y medidas crianzas en barricas de los robledales y tonelerías más acreditados. Izadi fue la bodega primigenia del Grupo Artevino, que desde el año 2000 está dirigida por Lalo Antón, hijo de Gonzalo. Lalo Antón, impulsa la comercialización en el exterior, así como la expansión de la empresa, que, bajo el nombre de Artevino, aborda los proyectos de Finca Villacreces (D.O. Ribera del Duero), Bodegas Vetus (D.O. Toro) y Orben (D.O.Ca. Rioja). La apuesta por la calidad, la vinculación por la gastronomía y el apego a la tierra son los pilares fundamentales sobre los que se asienta Bodegas Izadi. Arquitectónicamente, lo más interesante de esta bodega es el aprovechamiento que hace de un desnivel de 50 metros para utilizar la gravedad en la elaboración de sus vinos, dividiendo la bodega en 5 alturas distintas. Cada elemento está enfocado a mimar en cada fase del proceso las características de la uva. Además, y desde su nacimiento, la vocación de Izadi está muy unida al mundo de la gastronomía, una faceta que se puede complacer en la misma bodega, donde a menudo se realizan actividades que maridan el vino y la buena mesa.
