La filosofía.

A escasos kilómetros de Ciudad Real, por la carretera comarcal de Porzuna, se encuentra la bodega Pago del Vicario. Cuentan las leyendas, la literatura y la propia historia que estas tierras son lugares encantados. Los primeros pueblos que la recorrieron, y que le daban un sentido mitológico a las aguas, bautizaron al río Guadiana con el nombre de Annas, una de sus diosas cuyo nombre significaba Río. Un río encantado, que aparece y desaparece, un río hechizado que recorre la tierra del vino, de la naturaleza, de la cultura y de unas gentes hacedoras y hospitalarias. La filosofía de los vinos del grupo Pago del Vicario coincide con el terruño, el paisaje y el pago. La idea es que la uva pase del viñedo al lagar en pocos segundos y que los vinos se impregnen de la personalidad del viñedo. En el caso de Ciudad Real se ha optado por la Indicación Geográfica Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla, ya que otorga más libertad de acción al equipo técnico para elaborar un vino con toda la aportación que otorga el pago. El Bierzo, donde las variedades mencía y godello son santo y seña, es una denominación que acoge unas características idílicas de un paisaje de ensueño. Aquí es posible la sublimación con cepas con más de 110 años de antigüedad. Los vinos de Fondón, en la Alpujarra almeriense, quieren apostar por la Indicación Geográfica Protegida de Laujar-Alpujarra y con una clara orientación de vinos ecológicos.

Pagos del Vicario.

El viñedo de Pago del Vicario está situado a 600 metros de altitud, en la ribera del río Guadiana. Abarca una superficie de 130 hectáreas de viñedo, en el que predomina la Tempranillo, la uva española por excelencia. Se cultivan además Garnacha, Graciano, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon y Petit Verdot en tintas; Sauvignon Blanc y Chardonnay en blancas. Posee una orografía ondulada, con pendientes decrecientes hacia el río. Su proximidad al curso de agua, le proporciona un microclima excepcional, con temperaturas suaves y un gran contraste termico entre día y noche, lo que favorece la síntesis de aromas en la época de maduración de la uva. Los suelos, muy heterogéneos en cuanto a textura y composición, van desde los francoarenosos y francolimosos, a zonas donde predominan las cuarcitas, alternando con pizarras. Este hecho aporta una gran riqueza de matices, ya que las 29 parcelas en que se ha dividido el pago, se ajustan a las propiedades de cada tipo de suelo. El manejo está individualizado para cada parcela, de acuerdo con el tipo de vino a elaborar. Se emplean las técnicas más vanguardistas de la viticultura mundial, tales como dendrometría o teledetección, lo que hacen de Pago del Vicario “EL PAGO DEL SIGLO XXI”.

La bodega.

La bodega Pago Del Vicario se encuentra a 9 kilómetros del centro de Ciudad Real en un entorno flanqueado por el río Guadiana y en las primeras estribaciones de los Montes de Toledo.
Dedica toda la uva que produce, en los viñedos situados junto a la bodega, a la elaboración de sus propios vinos, con la filosofía con la que nació el proyecto en el año 2000. La bodega, en forma de catalejo, se levanta sobre el terreno del propio viñedo y se funde con en el entorno de una manera natural y con una silueta vanguardista al margen del río Guadiana y a los pies de los Montes de Toledo. Cada una de las distintas lomas del edificio se integra a la perfección con la orografía y el color del paisaje, al tiempo que la sucesión de arcos decrecientes simboliza las distintas fases de transformación del proceso, desde el viñedo, al depósito, a la barrica, a la botella y finalmente a la copa. El diseño de la bodega de Pago Del Vicario conjuga modernidad y tradición. En su interior instalaciones de última generación y un parque de barricas compuesto por distintos tipos de roble: predominantemente francés, así como americano y del Caúcaso. Pago del Vicario de Castilla se inició en el año 2000 de la mano de los hermanos Antonio e Ignacio Barco, empresarios y con gran tradición familiar del campo y de la elaboración de vinos. Actividad iniciada por su padre y que ellos han retomado. La primera añada de los vinos de la bodega Pago del Vicario fue en el 2006. Tras haber pasado relativamente pocos años, se han extendido desde su Ciudad Real natal hacia otras zonas como hacia Cacabelos en el Bierzo. La bodega se encuentra a 9 kilómetros de Ciudad Real, en el municipio de Porzuna. Está franqueada por el río Guadiana al oeste y por los Montes de Toledo al norte. Tienen 130 hectáreas de viñedo alrededor de la bodega, repartidas en nueve vides, dos blancas y siete tintas, que tan sólo las utilizan para elaboración propia. Los viñedos se encuentra en altura, a unos 600 metros de altitud. Dentro del complejo tiene un restaurante y un hotel de 4 estrellas para poder proponer a sus visitantes un poco de enoturismo.
