Finca El Castillo.

En 1941 Don José Sánchez-Cerezo y Doña Julia Roch Melgares adquirieron la finca Casa Castillo para la explotación de romero. En la misma se hallaba enclavada una bodega construida en 1870. Es en 1985 cuando la segunda generación de la familia, representada en Nemesio y su hijo José Mª Vicente, comenzó un nuevo proyecto con la reestructuración del viñedo y la introducción de nuevas variedades. En 1991 se reforma el edificio de la bodega respetando la estructura original y se realiza la primera elaboración, saliendo al mercado su primer vino en 1993 con el nombre de Casa Castillo Crianza 1991. En la actualidad es la tercera generación, con José Mª Vicente a la cabeza, la que se encuentra al frente de la bodega. Éste había comenzado los estudios de arquitectura cuando, coincidiendo con la primera añada de la bodega familiar abandonó sus planes iniciales para dedicarse de lleno al mundo del vino. Inquieto y autodidacta, su aprendizaje se desarrolló entre Francia, Italia, Alemania y Portugal. En estos viajes no buscaba las grandes bodegas sino los pequeños viticultores que tenían una filosofía artesanal. Casa Castillo se localiza en el altiplano de Jumilla. Sus tierras ocupan la zona umbría de la Sierra del Molar, alzándose en empinadas laderas hasta los 760 metros de altitud. La finca tiene una superficie de 402 hectáreas de las cuales únicamente se dedican al viñedo 150, el resto se destina al cultivo de almendros, olivos y a la conservación de monte y pinar. La variedad autóctona Monastrell ocupa el 80% del viñedo, seguida del 12% de Garnacha y el 8% de Syrah.

Las parcelas.

Las parcelas se distribuyen sobre una extensa área con zonas muy diferenciadas:
-El Valle, compuesto por suelos franco-arenosos, está cultivado en su totalidad con Monastrell, y las cepas tienen 25 años de media. El viñedo se cultiva de forma tradicional conducido en vaso y en régimen de secano, como el resto de la finca, con una densidad de plantación de 1.600 cepas por hectárea.
-La zona de Valtosca, con una superficie de 12 hectáreas, es la transición entre las laderas de Las Gravas y El Valle. De suelo franco-arenoso, está cubierto de tosca caliza, de ahí proviene su nombre Valtosca (valle-tosca). Se cultiva en su totalidad Syrah, con una alta densidad de plantación por hectárea, lo que origina un vino maduro y concentrado.
-En la parcela Las Gravas, 28 hectáreas de suelo muy pedregoso en las laderas de las montañas de la Sierra del Molar, se cultivan Monastrell y Garnacha, plantadas desde finales de los 70 a 1986. La selección anual de las uvas de estas parcelas dan origen al vino más mineral de la bodega.
-La parcela La Solana, con sus 12 hectáreas de suelo arenoso, abriga una vieja plantación de Monastrell en pie franco, plantadas en 1941 con rendimientos muy bajos y cuyo fruto se elabora por separado para dar lugar al vino más emblemático de la bodega, el Casa Castillo Pie Franco.
-El paraje del Molar actualmente lo componen 17 hectáreas repartidas en tres viñedos plantados en diferentes suelos y orientaciones. El ensamblaje de estas tres viñas proporciona complejidad, frescura y tipicidad a esta garnacha jumillana.

Estrategia.

La propiedad vitícola Casa Castillo es una finca familiar dedicada al cultivo de 200 ha de viñedo desde 1991, cuyo fruto en su totalidad se elabora en la bodega ubicada en dicha propiedad. La originalidad de la zona, la aridez y las bajas temperaturas se dejan notar en los viñedos de baja producción y en la elevada concentración obtenida de forma natural. Los vinos producidos son intensos de color, ricos en aromas afrutados, con cuerpo y estructura, respetando el carácter, la casta y singularidad de cada parcela. Casa Castillo es la primera bodega de Jumilla que ha logrado transgredir la imagen de relación precio-calidad con su vino estrella, el Pie Franco.

Diferente, de gran personalidad y muy bueno... pero para ser combinado cuidadosamente (marisco, frutas de mate, sopas de verduras, quizás puedas arriesgar con un poco de queso blando). Una hermosa expresión controlado y armonioso.
