Historia y viñedos.
La bodega Sierra Cantabria se fundó en 1957 de la mano de la familia Eguren que tras varias generaciones, han demostrado con éxito que saben mantener la tradición y aplicar las ultimas innovaciones siendo propietarios de algunas de las mejores bodegas de Rioja. Los viñedos de Sierra Cantabria se extienden en más de 90 hectáreas, y cuentan para el enjecimiento de sus vinos con crianza de más de 2.500 barricas. Con la experiencia de la familia Eguren, la bodega Sierra Cantabria cuenta con un microclima (entre continental y mediterráneo) y pocos contrastes de temperaturas entre verano e invieno . El suelo es además idóneo para la explotación vinícola y la elaboración de caldos de gran reconocimiento internacional. La bodega Sierra Cantabria elabora vinos con estilos muy diferentes: por un lado los Sierra Cantabria (crianza, reserva y gran reserva) con un tono más tradicional y por otro lado los más próximos a las nuevas tendencias de consumo como el Colección Privada, El Bosque, Amancio y el Cuvée especial.
El Grupo Sierra Cantabria.
Seis bodegas y un catálogo de marcas que juegan en la primera liga del vino internacional están detrás del Grupo Sierra Cantabria, sociedad familiar con epicentro en Rioja y comandado por los hermanos Miguel Ángel (presidente) y Marcos Eguren, (enólogo). Ellos son la cuarta generación de una saga de viticultores riojanos: Amancio, nacido en 1870, fue el primer viticultor de la familia, después tomarían el testigo Victorino y Guillermo, padre de Miguel Ángel y Marcos. Ambos hermanos iniciaron el camino de la alta calidad en la bodega familiar Sierra Cantabria (1957), situada en San Vicente de la Sonsierra (Rioja Alta).
Después pusieron en marcha una serie de proyectos clave en la revolución que sacudió el vino riojano de los noventa. Viñedos Sierra Cantabria (2005) es una firma concebida como una fracción de la bodega originaria para integrar los vinos de pago. Elabora su gama de vinos con excepcionales viñedos de tempranillo (35 hectáreas con una edad media de 38 años) ubicados en la zona de la Sonsierra, en los que se aplica una viticultura respetuosa con el medio ambiente. Aquí se produce una envidiable gama de vinos: los tintos Sierra Cantabria Cuvée, Colección Privada, Finca El Bosque, Amancio y el blanco Sierra Cantabria Organza.
