Innovación de la mano de tradición.
Bodegas Riojanas había sido tradicionalmente una empresa "familiar", pero los propietarios creyeron que el "juicio del mercado" les haría mejorar en sus actuaciones y haría que "su" empresa fuese más competitiva, de aquí surgió la idea de cotizar en el mercado continuo de valores. Bodegas Riojanas controla más de 100 hectáreas de los mejores viñedos en Cenicero, San Vicente de la Sonsierra y localidades próximas a éstas. A lo largo de sus más de 100 años de historia, Bodegas Riojanas ha sabido evolucionar con su época e innovación va de la mano con tradición. Así, han incorporado las técnicas de vinificación más avanzadas que permiten una adaptación a las tendencias actuales del mercado.
Una bodega centenaria.
Bodegas Riojanas es una de las grandes firmas centenarias de Rioja, fundadas en 1890 por familias de tradición vitivinícola (cosecheros, productores y exportadores) en Cenicero (La Rioja). La uva por excelencia es la Tempranillo, que encuentra en la sabia combinación con otras variedades (Mazuelo y Graciano para los tintos; Viura y Malvasía para los blancos) el punto justo de la alta calidad para elaborar. A lo largo de su centenaria trayectoria Bodegas Riojanas ha permanecido siempre atenta a la evolución de los gustos del mercado, tanto desde el punto de vista enológico como estético. Destaca especialmente la importancia que ha cobrado en Bodegas Riojanas su Departamento de Investigación y Desarrollo, que está trabajando actualmente en más de una docena de proyectos de investigación, como el Proyecto de Desarrollo de un Vino Funcional (con mayor cantidad en resveratrol), el desarrollo de una ficha de evaluación de viñedo, o el estudio del comportamiento del vino en diferentes barricas. En la actualidad, Bodegas Riojanas elabora bajo diferentes denominaciones de origen, con más de una decena de marcas.
Una bodega familiar.
Esta es una bodega familiar que actualmente es dirigida por su quinta generación. Una de sus premisas básicas es seguir los patrones clásicos en la elaboración de sus vinos, y además cuentan con que gran parte del equipo de enólogos descienden de la familia fundadora. Los mejores viñedos de la casa se encuentran en las zonas de Cenicero, San Vicente de la Sonsierra y las localidades cercanas a estos dos pueblos riojanos. Allí cultivan principalmente la variedad Tempranillo, pero además Bodegas Riojanas cultiva también una de las mayores extensiones dedicadas a las variedades Mazuelo y Graciano dentro de la denominación. Aunque su centro de operaciones se encuentra en la Rioja Alta, también cuentan con cinco puntos de elaboración más: Toro, Rías Baixas, Ribera del Duero, Rueda y Cava. Gracias a esta diversificación han conseguido llegar a un público más amplio y contar ya con 200 hectáreas de viñedo en propiedad, además de recibir uvas procedentes de otras 600 hectáreas que controla. En ambos casos la edad media de los viñedos gira en torno a los 25 años. Los proveedores de uvas procedentes de viñedos externos llevan vinculados a esta familia durante generaciones, lo que supone una garantía de calidad en la materia prima. Bodegas Riojanas es, en definitiva, una bodega clásica, que se sirve de las nuevas tecnologías para la elaboración de sus vinos, y que va ganando terreno en otras denominaciones de origen con el fin de satisfacer la demanda y los gustos del mercado vinícola actual.
